Eric Heltzel – About Me

Hi. I’m Eric Heltzel. I’ve carved this space out on the Internet to share my story. By digging up the past, recording the present, and planning for the future I hope to share something of interest and perhaps even enlightenment.

What’s new?

My wife, Joann, and I are in the process of leaving the typical American lifestyle to spend more time traveling and living in different areas in the United States.

In January 2015, we purchased das Fass, a 1994 34′ Airstream Excella 1000 travel trailer. Fortunately, Joann was able to keep working for her employer in Boston while I work on the renovations to das Fass.

What are my current goals?

Well, the first goal is to finish the das Fass updates.

Joann and I then plan to do a little travel prior to arriving in a new home base in Southeastern Arizona. The area we’re headed to and the plan to live and travel in the Airstream will lower our expenses so that we can work less, expand our ministry, and explore the Western United States.

I’ll be keeping this blog updated weekly, mostly with information on our travels, living in das Fass, and adapting to life in the West.

I spent many years hardly picking up my guitars, but I’ll be focusing on increasing my playing skill, knowledge of music, and song catalog.

I set a goal to read 24 books this year. I’m also writing one of my own.

What’s my story?

I’m originally from the Orlando area. When I was in third grade my parents moved us to a town near New Bern, North Carolina for a couple of years. We then moved back to Orlando and eventually settled in Groveland. I lived in Groveland until Joann and I were married in 2004.

In 2006, after about a year and a half of marriage, I talked Joann into moving to Boston, Massachusetts. We spent 2 years in Boston and another 8+ in Quincy. Living in the Boston area was obviously quite a change compared to Central Florida.

Joann and I enjoyed living in New England but were ready for a new chapter. We went on many fun trips around the Northeast, most recently a trip to Belfast, Maine.

What do I like?

Let’s break this up into categories. Three of each. Go.
